I speak for the general student population at Puyallup High School when I say, “We need this bond.”
I am a senior at PHS, and while I have Viking pride, the condition of the school itself is not something to be particularly proud of. The halls and cafeteria are overcrowded, the lack of a lot parking makes for congested streets, the science classrooms have students’ engravings from the 1970s, the gym is operating without an elevator, which makes it impossible for injured students to get to the second-floor classrooms, and we have a portable metropolis outside across the street.
While I understand all of this cannot be corrected before 2013 graduation, the bond offers solutions to many of these problems: additional classrooms to replace the inefficient portables at all three Puyallup School District high schools, and improvements to many of the elementary schools.
Voting “yes” would ensure the school district can keep providing kids with quality educations for years to come. That, to me, is a worthy investment.
