HERMISTON -- The Hermiston School Board this week approved $5 million worth of improvements for Hermiston High School's football and track facility.
Donors recently filled a $700,000 gap needed to get the project at Kennison Field moving. A ceremony is set for 4 p.m. Feb. 8 at the stadium, according to a news release.
Much of the project is being paid for by state and federal grants. Hundreds of thousands of dollars more were needed to upgrade the facility enough to qualify for state-level high school sporting events.
Citizens and companies donated to the fundraising campaign.
District officials said that contractors and subcontractors who bid on the project also helped the district keep the project on budget.
The field is expected to be ready for the 2013 high school football season.
