A 24-year-old man driving a stolen car Tuesday night led Tacoma police on a pursuit that ended in Fife when a police dog caught the man as he tried to run away.
A patrol officer spotted the stolen car in the 3800 block of Pacific Avenue and tried to pull the driver over, police said Wednesday. The driver sped up, leading police down state Route 7 and Interstate 5 before getting off the freeway in Fife.
The driver had to stop for a train, made a U-turn and possibly blew out a back tire, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. As he drove by, police said, the driver tried to hit a pursuing patrol car, but ended up losing control of the car and crashing in a ditch.
He ran away but a police dog gave chase and took him down.
The man was carrying multiple shaved keys used for stealing cars and several weapons, including folding knives, Cool said.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries and booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of felony eluding, possessing a stolen vehicle, possessing auto theft tools and possessing a dangerous email@example.com
