Tacoma firefighters on Wednesday battled flames at a two-story apartment complex in Fircrest, the department reported.
Crews were called about 10 a.m. to Fircrest Gardens, 1425 Rainier Drive, and found several residents had fled the building. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 10:10 a.m. and checked the apartments to ensure nobody was inside. The fire affected all four units and displaced five people.
No injuries were reported. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Although some residents reported hearing explosions or possibly ammunition going off, fire spokesman Joe Meinecke said the popping noises likely were water hitting electrical outlets.
