Arson was the cause of a fire Tuesday in a vacant house in the 4800 block of South J Street, Tacoma Fire Department officials said Wednesday.

Firefighters responded about 1:20 p.m. to the 1,000-square-foot home and saw heavy flames coming from the front and back of the house.

Crews initially struggled with the fire because a downed power line briefly kept them from moving a hose line. They eventually pulled the hose across a sidewalk and around the downed line, officials said.

No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $103,000.
