TRACKING LOCAL GOLFERS ON THE PGA TOUR
This week: Waste Management Phoenix Open, through Sunday, TPC Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Ariz.
In the field: Puyallup’s Ryan Moore, Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley and Tacoma’s Troy Kelly.
Second-round scores: Moore fired a 5-under-par 66, Kelly shot a 3-under 68, and Stanley had an even-par 71.
Positions: Moore (10-under 132) is tied for eighth, and Stanley (4-under 138) is tied for 60th — both trailing leader Phil Mickelson (17-under 125). Kelly (2-under 140) missed the cut by two strokes.
Recap: A second consecutive 66 has Moore in contention. His bogey-free round had five birdies as he threatened all morning to take a share of the lead with Mickelson. Yet, on the final stretch, Moore left birdie putts inches short at the 15th and 16th holes, and on the tough finishing hole, he missed an 8-footer for birdie. … Stanley returned early Friday to complete his first round, and he promptly rolled in a 45-foot eagle putt at No. 17. But he did not build on that in the second round as he was 2-over through 13 holes before recording back-to-back birdies at Nos. 5 and 6. … Kelly had arguably his best round of the season (five birdies, two bogeys), but he was just 1 under on the par-5 holes during his two rounds.
Tee times today: Stanley at 9 a.m. off the 10th tee, and Moore at 10:30 a.m. off the first tee.
Next for Kelly: AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am starting Thursday at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.
