- Troy Williams, 6-2, 190, Harbor City, Calif. (Narbonne)
- Committed to: Washington
Scouting report: When you are the national champion, once in a while you get a top-50 quarterback recruit for free. Catching everybody by surprise, Del Rio – the son of Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio who had been an Oklahoma State commit – not only switched to the Crimson Tide as a walk-on, he enrolled in college in January. Del Rio led Valor Christian to the Class 5A title in Colorado. … Bruggman was the top quarterback prospect from Arizona, and became one of Mike Leach’s first recruits for 2013 when he committed last June. He throws well on the run. … The Arizona Republic’s first-team, all-state quarterback pick wasn’t Bruggman – it was Finley, who threw for 3,442 yards and 35 touchdowns. He is also an accomplished ping-pong player. … Williams joins a stable of young quarterbacks at Washington, ready to take the reins from Keith Price. The run-pass weapon is the two-time city section player of the year from Los Angeles – and consensus top-10 quarterback recruit nationally. … No West Coast quarterback has a stronger arm than Rettig, who is the third member to select an SEC program (LSU). Rettig’s brother, Chase, is the starting quarterback at Boston College. … Despite missing most of his senior season (knee), Stanton still set the career total offense mark at Santa Margarita Catholic (5,900 yards), breaking Carson Palmer’s record (5,267). … Browne was rated No. 1 nationally by every recruiting service.
RUNNING BACK (10)
- Lavon Coleman, 5-11, 200, Lompoc, Calif. (Lompoc)
- Committed to: Washington
- Pierre Cormier, 5-9, 179, San Diego, Calif. (Madison)
- Committed to: Arizona
- Justin Davis, 6-1, 199, Stockton, Calif. (Lincoln)
- Committed to: USC
- Zachary Green, 5-9, 210, Ventura, Calif. (Saint Bonaventure)
- Committed to: Arizona
- Craig Lee, 6-0, 190, Redlands, Calif. (Redlands Senior)
- Committed to: UCLA
- Terrell Newby, 5-10, 180, West Hills, Calif. (Chaminade)
- Committed to: Nebraska
- Jalen Ortiz, 5-9, 170, Peoria, Ariz. (Centennial)
- Committed to: UCLA
- Thomas Tyner, 6-0, 210, Aloha, Ore. (Aloha)
- Committed to: Oregon
- Gerard Wicks, 5-11, 195, Long Beach, Calif. (Poly)
- Committed to: Washington State
- Aofaga Wily, 5-11, 185, Kahuku, Hawaii (Kahuku)
- Considering: Hawaii, Arizona, Utah
Scouting report: With quarterback Matt Barkley no longer guiding the USC backfield, the Trojans might turn more to the run game next season. Figuring in the mix should be Davis, who is bigger than incumbents Silas Redd and D.J. Morgan. The best tailback prospect out of California enrolled in college in January. Davis rushed for 82 touchdowns in his three seasons. … Arizona nabbed a pair of all-purpose running backs in Cormier and Green. Both were Cal-Hi all-state selections who combined for nearly 4,000 rushing yards and 56 touchdowns. … As good as Bishop Sankey was for Washington last season as a featured tailback, the Huskies could use a “Beast” (Coleman) in their short-yardage attack. He got that nickname in high school because he is so difficult to bring to the ground. Coleman hails from the same prep program as former UW star Napoleon Kaufman. … Nebraska likes a little toughness in its rushing attack, and is expected to sign a bruiser in Newby, the Los Angeles Daily News player of the year. Newby comes from a power-running offense, and scored 105 touchdowns in his career. … Wily is the real unknown on this list. But folks in Hawaii compare him to one of the biggest names in NFL history – Marcus Allen – because of his smooth running style. Wily is Kahuku’s career-leading rusher, and No. 4 all-time in the state. … Tyner is generally considered the No. 2 tailback recruit nationally behind Virginia prep star Derrick Green.
WIDE RECEIVERS (8)
- Devon Allen, 6-0, 187, Phoenix, Ariz. (Brophy Prep)
- Committed to: Oregon
- Darrell Daniels, 6-3, 211, Oakley, Calif. (Freedom)
- Committed to: Washington
- Darren Carrington Jr., 6-3, 184, San Diego, Calif. (Horizon)
- Committed to: Oregon
- Sebastian LaRue, 5-11, 185, Santa Monica, Calif. (Santa Monica)
- Committed to: Texas A&M
- Steven Mitchell, 5-11, 176, Mission Hills, Calif. (Bishop Alemany)
- Committed to: USC
- Francis Owusu, 6-2, 200, Westlake Village, Calif. (Oaks Christian)
- Committed to: Stanford
- John Ross, 5-9, 170, Long Beach, Calif. (David Starr Jordan)
- Committed to: Washington
- Damore'ea Stringfellow, 6-3, 203, Moreno Valley, Calif. (Rancho Verde)
- Committed to: Washington
Scouting report: The receiver class is short on quantity, not on quality. If new Oregon coach Mark Helfrich follows through on his plan to open up the passing attack, he has two big-time weapons in Allen (Arizona’s second-best recruit) and Carrington (father, Darren, played safety in NFL). The speedy Allen plans to also run track for the Ducks – he holds both state records in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. … Coach Steve Sarkisian and Washington did their Northwest rivals one better, grabbing three of California’s best in Stringfellow, Daniels and Ross. Stringfellow is the blue-chip of the group, and like Daniels, a massive target. … Sometime earlier in his high school career, Mitchell wanted to be the next great running back out of California – like Reggie Bush. But he was shifted to slot receiver as a sophomore, and was named co-MVP of the Serra League in 2012. Still, he at least gets to go to the same university as Bush in USC.
TIGHT END (9)
- Marcus Baugh, 6-4, 229, Riverside, Calif. (John W. North)
- Committed to: Ohio State
- Eric Cotton Jr., 6-foot5, 235, Nampa, Idaho (Columbia)
- Committed to: Stanford
- Thomas Duarte, 6-3, 223, Santa Ana, Calif. (Mater Dei)
- Committed to: UCLA
- Siale Fakailoantonga, 6-4, 215, Salt Lake City, Utah (Cottonwood)
- Considering: BYU, Utah, UCLA
- Harrison Handley, 6-5, 200, Sandy, Utah (Alta)
- Committed to: Utah
- Austin Hooper, 6-5, 245, Concord, Calif. (De La Salle)
- Committed to: Stanford
- Chauntez Jackson, 6-4, 235, Inglewood, Calif. (Inglewood)
- Committed to: Houston
- Committed to: Oregon
- Mitchell Parsons, 6-5, 240, Parker, Colo. (Chaparral)
- Committed to: Vanderbilt
Scouting report: The position has become a staple in Stanford’s offense, and the Cardinal wasted no time stockpiling with Hooper and Cotton. Cotton is Idaho’s top prospect. Hooper was also a highly-regarded defensive end, and finally narrowed his decision to the Pacific-12 Conference’s two Bay Area universities before committing to the program where his uncle, Greg, played fullback. … Baugh is a top-five tight end nationally who came on as a senior at John W. North after he put on 40 pounds in the offseason – and did not lose any of his top-end speed. He committed to Ohio State last April. … UCLA plucked arguably the best pass-catcher of the group in Duarte, who was the offensive player of the year selected by the Orange County Register and Los Angeles Times. Duarte hauled in 15 touchdown passes, many on jump-ball passes. … When Nike puts on football combines, it uses a “SPARQ” scale to test a recruit’s speed, power, agility, reaction and quickness – and Mundt blew away all tight ends with the highest score. Also a great baseball pitcher, Mundt committed to Oregon last summer. … For more than a year, Parsons stood firm on his Colorado choice. But when coach Jon Embree was fired after the season, the all-state tight end decided to leave the Colorado for Vanderbilt.
OFFENSIVE LINE (13)
- Dane Crane, 6-3, 305, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. (Santa Margarita Catholic)
- Committed to: Washington
- Nico Falah, 6-4, 267, Bellflower, Calif. (Saint John Bosco)
- Committed to: USC
- Chris Fox, 6-5, 295, Parker, Colo. (Ponderosa)
- Committed to: Michigan
- Cameron Hunt, 6-4, 267, Corona, Calif. (Centennial)
- Committed to: California
- Brayden Kearsley, 6-4, 300, Aloha, Ore. (Aloha)
- Committed to: BYU
- Reeve Koehler, 6-4, 321, Honolulu, Hawaii (Saint Louis)
- Committed to: Arkansas
- Kenny Lacy, 6-5, 260, Phoenix, Ariz. (Mountain Pointe)
- Committed to:UCLA
- John Lopez, 6-6, 315, Orange, Calif. (Lutheran)
- Committed to: UCLA
- Poasi Moala, 6-5, 270, Moreno Valley, Calif. (Rancho Verde)
- Committed to: UCLA
- Alex Redmond, 6-5, 302, Los Alamitos, Calif. (Los Alamitos)
- Committed to: UCLA
- Dan Skipper, 6-8, 285, Arvada, Colo. (Ralston Valley)
- Committed to: Arkansas
- Logan Stott, 6-3, 300, St. George, Utah (Pine View)
- Committed to: Arizona
- Evan Voeller, 6-4, 290, West Linn, Ore. (West Linn)
- Committed to: Oregon
Scouting report: Not a year for no-brainer blue-chips, but that did not stop UCLA from loading up on big men. The Bruins got top-20 tackles in Lacy and Moala, and top-25 guards in Lopez and Redmond. The super athlete of the bunch is Lacy, a long-armed blocker who has gotten late interest from Ohio State. … Fox is arguably Colorado’s top recruit. To foster his relentless style of play, coaches at Ponderosa had the teenager play defense early in his career so he could run around a lot. Michigan is getting a guard with a real mean streak in him. … At one point, Falah was very solid on his commitment to USC. But over the winter holiday, the tackle softened that stance – and Washington and Oregon are heavily after him. In fact, the Huskies sent him 74 pieces of recruiting mail at once, all to match his jersey number (No. 74). … Koehler was once the top-ranked guard recruit for 2013 as a junior. And all along, he planned to be part of a package deal with St. Louis teammate Colton Goeas. Plans changed – the once Tennessee commit has now chosen Arkansas.
DEFENSE
DEFENSIVE LINE (11)
- Calvin Allen, 6-5, 225, Alburquerque, N.M. (La Cueva)
- Committed to: Arizona
- Kenneth Clark, 6-2, 280, Rialto, Calif. (Wilmer Amina Carter)
- Committed to: UCLA
- Marcus Farria, 6-4, 235, Peoria, Ariz. (Centennial)
- Committed to: Washington
- Kylie Fitts, 6-4, 245, Redlands, Calif. (Redlands East Valley)
- Considering: Washington, USC, Norte Dame, Oregon, UCLA, Utah, Alabama
- Paulo Lepua, 6-2, 255, Harbor City, Calif. (Narbonne)
- Committed to: Washington State
- Lowell Lotulelei, 6-2, 293, South Jordan, Utah (Bingham)
- Committed to: Utah
- Joe Mathis, 6-4, 255, Upland, Calif. (Upland)
- Committed to: Washington
- Scott Pagano, 6-3, 279, Honolulu, Hawaii (Moanalua)
- Committed to: Clemson
- Elijah Qualls, 6-1, 282, Petaluma, Calif. (Casa Grande)
- Committed to: Washington
- Kennedy Tulimaseali'i, 6-1, 300, Waianae, Hawaii (Waianae)
- Committed to: Hawaii
- Eddie Vanderdoes IV, 6-3, 310, Auburn, Calif. (Placer)
- Considering: Alabama, Norte Dame, UCLA, USC, Washington
Scouting report: With the nation’s top defensive tackle prospect still on the board, some lucky college will get a huge signing-day boost to its recruiting class. Once part of the USC haul, Vanderdoes decommitted from the Trojans in December. He won MVP honors at the prestigious “The Opening” summer combine in Oregon, and has collected a number of all-state nods – all while facing triple-teams. He has made noise about also playing baseball. … Losing Vanderdoes wasn’t the Trojans’ fault directly – but seeing Fitts walk away was. A top-10 defensive end prospect, Fitts was set to enroll early – until the USC coaching staff asked him a few days before the news semester began to delay coming until June. He declined, and has opened his recruiting back up. … For Washington, Mathis (defensive end) and Qualls (defensive tackle) are top-20 recruits at their positions, and Farria has high upside as a pass rusher. … All Lepua does is sack quarterbacks. He had 26 as a senior at Narbonne, then three in the Semper Fi All-American Bowl. He committed to Washington State.

- Considering: Texas A&M, UCLA, Stanford, Norte Dame
- Tanner Vallejo, 6-2, 220, Grass Valley, Calif. (Nevada Union)
- Committed to: Boise State
Scouting report: It is one thing to wrap up a career at De La Salle High; it is another thing to go out in style at the same time longtime coach Bob Ladouceur retires. Hutchings could not have scripted a better ending to a storied career – a state title, a No. 1 ranking and the nod for “Mr. Football” in California. Hutchings was the prototypical every-down linebacker who played his best against spread offenses because of his speed. That should serve him well at USC. … If De La Salle boasted the best defense in the state, Rancho Cucamonga was not far off the pace. And it was the Latu twins who delivered the biggest hits, and are going off to Arizona State. … It has almost been a decade since the Sun Devils landed a top-100 recruit nationally from their home state. Cox is a versatile defender who can bull-rush tight ends and cover inside receivers – a weapon who won’t come off the field. He enrolled early at Tempe. … Buoyed by his MVP effort at the Bay Area Nike camp, Palma became Stanford’s inside linebacker of choice, and committed to the Cardinal in October.
DEFENSIVE BACKS (15)
- Brandon Arnold, 6-0, 183, Encino, Calif. (Crespi Carmelite)
- Committed to: Oregon State

- Committed to: Arizona
- Hatari Byrd, 6-1, 190, Fresno, Calif. (Central East)
- Committed to: Oklahoma
- Su'a Cravens, 6-1, 205, Murrieta, Calif. (Vista Murrieta)
- Committed to: USC
- Tyler Foreman, 6-2, 175, Encino, Calif. (Crespi Carmelite)

- Committed to: Oregon State
- Johnny Johnson Jr., 5-10, 190, Fresno, Calif. (Central East)
- Committed to: UCLA
- Jermaine Kelly, 6-2, 185, Los Angeles, Calif. (Salesian)
- Committed to: Washington
- Cole Luke, 6-0, 165, Chandler, Ariz. (Hamilton)
- Committed to: Norte Dame
- L.J. Moore, 6-0, 164, Fresno, Calif. (Central East)
- Considering: Arizona State, California, Norte Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon State
- Max Redfield, 6-2, 195, Mission Viejo, Calif. (Mission Viejo)
- Committed to: Norte Dame
- Chris Seisay, 6-2, 175, American Canyon, Calif. (American Canyon)
- Committed to: Oregon
- Priest Willis, 6-2, 199, Tempe, Ariz. (Marcos De Niza)
- Committed to: UCLA
Scouting report: By a wide margin, this is the deepest position pool of four- and five-star prospects on the West Coast. It all starts with Cravens, the do-everything safety from Vista Murrieta who is headed to USC. A distant cousin of Heisman Trophy runner-up Manti Te’o, Cravens was twice a finalist for “Mr. Football” in California as a junior and senior, was named the Gatorade state player of the year – and finally raked in USA Today national defensive player of the year honors. … The Trojans might have won that blue-chip battle, but UCLA easily won the war in California. Foreman and Goodman are top-10 safety recruits, Johnson is regarded similarly at cornerback and the Bruins took Arizona’s best prospect in Willis, who can play cornerback or safety. In fact, Goodman and Willis purposely announced their college choice within hours of each other. … Notre Dame even scored in California, nabbing a big playmaker at safety in Redfield (four interceptions, four blocked punts at Mission Viejo) and a top-flight cornerback in Luke, who is not a bad consolation prize to Willis.
ATHLETES (5)
- Sean Barton, 6-3, 220, Woods Cross, Utah (Woods Cross)
- Committed to: Stanford
- Devin Holiday, 5-10, 170, San Marcos, Calif. (Mission Hills)
- Committed to: Arizona
- Danny Mattingly, 6-foot5, 225, Spokane, Wash. (Mead)
- Committed to: Oregon
- Tyree Robinson, 6-3, 190, San Diego, Calif. (Abraham Lincoln)
- Committed to: Oregon
- Tyrell Robinson, 6-3, 210, San Diego, Calif. (Abraham Lincoln)
- Committed to: Oregon
Scouting report: So are they available? That is the question FBS recruiters are asking daily about the Robinson twins, who are among the best football and basketball recruits nationally. Not surprisingly, they want to play both sports – together. They initially pledged to Oregon in September, but have started looking around since coach Chip Kelly left for the NFL. Tyrell is an outside linebacker, and Tyree can play a number of positions, much like 2011 recruiting darling De’Anthony Thomas, who is also a two-sport athlete at Oregon. … Mattingly was committed to Notre Dame for a long time at linebacker, but rumblings he was ready for a change surfaced late in the fall. He would like the chance to play tight end, too – and the Ducks apparently will oblige. … Barton will go on an LDS mission before deciding if he plays linebacker or jumbo receiver.
SPECIAL TEAMS (3)
- Matt Anderson, 6-0, 180, Danville, Calif. (San Ramon Valley)
- Committed to: California
- Daniel Carlson, 6-5, 195, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Classical Academy)
- Committed to: Auburn
- Cameron Van Winkle, 5-10, 170, Snoqualmie, Wash. (Mount Si)
- Committed to: Washington
Scouting report: Strong, accurate legs highlight this trio of placekickers. Carlson, a two-time all-state selection, has reportedly made 70-yard field goals in practice – and it is almost a given his kickoffs go through the end zone. He may need a family pardon, however, selecting Auburn since his parents and grandparents are Alabama graduates. … Anderson, a left-footed kicker, also boasts plenty of thunder in his leg. In fact, he outkicked Carlson and Boston College-recruit Michael Geiger at California summer camps to win a scholarship offer from the Bears. … Van Winkle is the state of Washington’s all-time field goal leader with 39.
Commitments are as of Friday, Feb. 1
