Two Richland music students were named the overall winners at the recent Young Artists Competition sponsored by the Mid-Columbia Symphony.
Violinist Diana Wang, a ninth grader at Hanford High, and pianist Justin James Chua, a 10th grader at Richland High, will perform with the symphony at its spring concert in May.
The competition was held in January at Central United Protestant Church in Richland. This year's candidates performed in flute, piano and strings categories.
Here's the list of competitors and winners:
Carolyn Rice, 16, of Richland, won senior division for flute. Her teacher is Linda Doria.
Nathan Hu, 8, of Richland, competed in primary piano. His teacher is Holly Harty.
Michelle Fu, 10, of Richland, won the primary piano division. Her teacher is Holly Harty.
Nathanael Jo, 13, of Pasco, competed in intermediate piano. His teacher is Patti Robertson.
Catherine Guevara, 11, of Richland, competed in intermediate piano. Her teacher is Gulnura Brown.
Egret Jin, 11, of Richland, won the intermediate piano division. Her teacher is Hania Dec. Jin also competed in the intermediate strings (violin) division. Her violin teacher is Frank Lu.
Scott Kovacs, 16, of Richland, competed in the senior piano division. His teacher is Holly Harty.
Minju Chun, 15, of Richland, competed in the senior strings (violin) division. Her teacher is Mary K. French.
Brenden Bachaud, 17, of Richland, competed in the senior strings (violin) division. His teacher is Mary K. French.
Elizabeth Mo, 16, of Richland, competed in the senior string (cello) division. Her teacher is Lauren Edmondson.
Annette Germain, 13, of Connell, competed in the intermediate strings (violin) division. Her teacher is Mary K. French.
Jessica Hu, 11, of Richland, competed in the intermediate strings (violin) division. Her teacher is Frank Lu.
Tommy Mayhew, 12, of Pasco, won the intermediate strings (violin) division. His teacher is Sherry Danielson.
