February 4, 1913
Indicating new terminal projects of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railway, an announcement was made today that work will be started at once on the dredging of a new waterway east of the present Milwaukee ocean terminals. The waterway will extend 1,000 feet from the waterfront almost to the Milwaukee car shops. It will be 100 feet wide and 25 feet deep.

A three-way personality struggle among the food manager, cooks and the former dietitian of Western State Hospital unfolded today during the State Personnel Board hearing into the firing of Lillian C. Dittmer, the dismissed dietitian. Three cooks, a staff physician and Noble Foster, the food manager, testified today that Dittmer was mainly responsible for the distressed food situation that existed when she was dismissed last November.

Most members of the House Ways and Means Committee oppose spending $4.5 million in state funds for a Tacoma Goodwill Games pool and recreation center, an informal Morning News Tribune survey shows. The committee is scheduled to vote on the question this afternoon. A majority of the 31 committee members told The Morning News Tribune they will vote against the request to help build an Olympic-class swimming facility for the 1990 Goodwill Games. Six members who were considered possible swing votes by pool backers all said they would definitely or probably oppose the pool. “At this stage, it appears to me to not be good,” said Rep. Dan Grimm, D-Puyallup, chairman of the committee and one of six committee members who said they support the pool. Grimm said he may not even call for a vote if the pool appears to have no chance.
