Every-other-week garbage pickup set to begin in Tacoma

The City of Tacoma announced today its plan for moving to an every-other-week garbage collection schedule beginning in March. Not everyone will get their garbage picked up twice per month right away. The city will launch the program with about 5,700 customers whose regular pick-up day is on Monday.

We mentioned this in our coverage of proposed utility rate increases last week, but in case you missed it the city announced today its plan for moving to an every-other-week garbage collection schedule beginning in March.

Not everyone will get their garbage picked up twice per month right away. The city will launch the program with about 5,700 customers whose regular pick-up day is on Monday. Over the next several months, city trash collectors will then gradually expand the program to customers with pick-up days Tuesday through Friday. The entire program is expected to be fully implemented by next February, the city’s Environmental Services director has said.
