The “Gig Harbor” Facebook page is no longer in the hands of a Gig Harborite.

David Reed, who started the page five years ago as a place for Facebook users to share and discuss photos of Gig Harbor, wrote in an email to the Gateway that he no longer has administrative control of the page and that its original content has been deleted. It now redirects to another page, labeled simply “Gig Harbor, Washington,” that features a description of the town from Wikipedia.

A Facebook policy explains that pages with generic location names are no longer allowed to have just one administrator in charge of content.

“If I was doing something wrong, I never meant to do so,” Reed wrote in his email. “I personally thank everyone that shared their photos and liked the page. It was truly an honor to showcase this town through their eyes.”

deeply sorry. I don’t know if the city requested this or Facebook was doing an internal audit, but my little hobby of showing off Gig Harbor will be gone forever.”
