The Gig Harbor Tides won’t have any boys competing at this weekend’s Class 4A Region III meet at Snohomish High in Everett.

Needing to secure a top-three place in each weight class, the Tides didn’t get anyone higher than fourth during last weekend’s Narrows League championships at Foss High in Tacoma.

At 145 pounds, freshman Max Batanian came up just short of advancing, losing 2-1 to Bellarmine Prep’s Kevin McCarthy for the third regional berth.

Gig Harbor freshman Michael Ferrara was fifth at 145, beating Yelm’s Luis Gomez 13-2 in his final match.

Freshman Eric North was fifth at 126, earning a 14-3 major decision over Bellarmine Prep’s Kory O’Connor to finish the tourney.

At 170, junior Eli Wilson placed sixth, losing 5-4 to Yelm’s Bo Campbell in his final match.

Gig Harbor scored 47 points to place sixth out of seven teams. Yelm won the team title with 386.5 points.

In girls sub-regional action, sisters Elizabeth and Mackenzie Schwendeman advanced to this weekend’s regional tourney.

Mackenzie, a junior, won the 112-pound division with a 17-6 major decision over Foss junior Laura Dittell. She also pinned White River’s Morgan Shirey and Fife’s Rosalinda Casteneda.

Elizabeth, a freshman, placed second at 100 pounds. She lost a 10-8 decision in the title match to Mount Tahoma’s Akayaisia Summandig, but she pinned Flor Foley of Foss in the semifinals.
