A 40-year-old man was arrested outside a Lakewood motel Monday night on suspicion of shoving a woman and kicking her service dog, police said.

The assault took place outside the Fort Lewis Motel, 12215 Pacific Highway SW, where both the woman and the man were guests. Surveillance video captured the incident.

Lt. Chris Lawler said the man confronted the woman – whom he did not know – and accused her of stealing his jeans from the motel laundry room. During the conversation, the service dog sniffed the man’s leg and walked away.

The man, who had been drinking, allegedly kicked the dog and shoved the woman to the ground before stalking off, Lawler said.

He was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of second-degree animal cruelty and assault.
