The Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday signed defensive end/linebacker Chris McCoy to a three-year contract and released offensive tackle Demetress Bell.

The Eagles signed Bell to a five-year contract last offseason in the aftermath of Jason Peters' Achilles injury that cost him the 2012 season.

Philadelphia was hoping that Bell would fill the void at left tackle, but he struggled to adapt to Philadelphia's system.

King Dunlap beat out Bell for the starting spot. Bell ended up playing in nine games (five starts) last season.

Bell spent the first four years of his career with the Buffalo Bills.

McCoy spent the past two seasons with the CFL's Calgary Stampeders, where he registered 29 tackles and five sacks. He was originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

This is the first significant roster move the team has made since Chip Kelly became coach last month.
