Here are some ideas about what you can do at February’s First Thursday.
DISCUSS CIVIC MATTERS
At Fettuccine Forum, learn more about the Boise 150, the city’s year-long sesquicentennial celebration. Boise State University professor and historian Lynn Lubamersky will talk about how human experience and memory shape the perception of history in “Memory and History,” 5 p.m. at the Rose Room, 718 W. Idaho St.
“Scenius” in Boise. The forum produced by the Muse Project explores the development of creative culture in the Treasure Valley, 7-9 p.m., Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy Annex, 8th and Myrtle streets. The panel includes Boise Philharmonic music director Robert Franz, tech entrepreneur Faisal Shah, Treefort Music Fest co-founder Lori Shandro, Trey McIntyre Project executive director John Michael Schert and Boston-based creative guru and master teacher Joe Gifford.
SEE ART; DO A CRAFT
The Art Source Gallery, 1015 W. Main St., features Robert Carter’s metal work. Carter seeks to capture the movement and immediacy of nature through the medium of industrial steel. Music will be by Wayne White and wine is from Indian Creek Winery.
Swing into the Boise 150 Sesqui-Shop, 1008 Main St., and meet artist Pat Kilby, who created the limited edition poster series that commemorates the Boise sesquicentennial.
Check out the collaboration between master glass artist William Morris and painter Alexis Rockman at the Boise Art Museum, 670 Julia Davis Drive with free admission all day. Learn more about the exhibit at Art Talk at 5:30 p.m. with Linda Tesner of the Hoffman Gallery at Lewis and Clark College.
Artisans4Hope is a nonprofit that showcases the work of Boise’s refugee artisans. American Clothing Gallery, 100 N. 8th St.
Watch artisans at Boise Art Glass, 530 W. Myrtle St., blow glass into intriguing shapes, or try it yourself. You can make a cup, vase, rose or heart-shaped paperweight, 5-10 p.m. Feb. 7 and 4-8 p.m. Feb. 8. It’s $40 for 30 minutes. Call 345-1825 to book a slot.
Jewelry artist Anna Whitmore will be at R. Grey Jewelry Gallery, 415 S. 8th St. to help you select the perfect piece from her colorful stone-and-metal jewelry.
LISTEN TO MUSIC
Dan Costello & The Truck Stop Orchestra, Classical Revolution and the Cello Collective will play at The Crux, 1022 W. Main St. Art by many, including Bruce Maurey and Sector Seventeen.
Bleubird, 224 N. 10th St., isn’t open winter evenings but it will be for First Thursday. Boise Rock School will perform from 6-8 p.m. Five percent of sales will benefit Think Boise First, a nonprofit that promotes a local sustainable economy.
