Pasco school planning science night event

Virgie Robinson Elementary in Pasco is sponsoring a SciFair Science Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. tonight, Feb. 7, featuring science presentations and hands-on activities.

Students from Chiawana, Pasco and Delta high schools will present, along with local organizations, including Franklin PUD and Boise Cascade.

The event is open to the public. The school is at 125 S. Wehe Ave..

  • Pasco to hold Delta High information session

    Eighth-graders and their parents in the Pasco School District are invited to an information session about Delta High School at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the district's administrative offices, 1215 W. Lewis St.

    Delta High is a science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, school jointly operated by the Pasco, Kennewick and Richland school districts. The school is in Richland.

    Students who will be freshmen next year and live in the district may apply. Applications will be available at the meeting and must be returned by Feb. 27. The district's share of students will be determined by random lottery.

  • Middle schoolers to celebrate Pi Day

    Students from Pasco, Sunnyside and Granger middle schools will converge on Washington State University Tri-Cities Thursday to celebrate Pi Day.

    The day is meant to promote math through the numeric value of pi, which is approximately 3.14, but also celebrates Albert Einstein's birthday.

    The celebrations at WSU Tri-Cities is specifically for students in the Math, Engineering and Science Achievement, or MESA, program, which provides outreach to groups not typically represented in science and math careers.

  • Pasco, Richland name Crystal Apple winners

    The Richland and Pasco school districts have announced the winners of the 2013 Crystal Apple Award in their schools.

    In Richland, Deborah Madison, a fifth-grade teacher in the Highly Capable program at Lewis & Clark Elementary School, and Paul Mayer, a government/leadership teacher and basketball coach at Hanford High School, won the award.

    In Pasco, Judy Church, a fourth-grade teacher at Rowena Chess Elementary School, and Raquel Martinez, biology teacher and chairwoman of the science department at Pasco High School, were given the annual honor.

  • Kids' Engineering Day is today at CBC

    Energy Northwest's chapter of Women in Nuclear is holding its first Kids' Engineering Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.There will be hands-on activities demonstrating basic math, science and engineering principles. Activities are geared toward elementary school aged children. All are invited to attend this free event.It will be at the Center for Career & Technical Education Building at Columbia Basin College in Pasco.

  • FFA students to compete Friday at River View

    Nine local chapters of Future Farmers of America, or FFA, will compete in the Lower Columbia Basin FFA Jamboree from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at River View High School, 36509 S. Lemon Drive, Finley.

    Students from Finley, Columbia, Pasco, Kiona-Benton City, Connell, Kahlotus, New Horizons, Chiawana and Kamiakin high schools will compete in career development events for a chance to go to the state convention.

    Events include tractor driving, horse evaluation, food science, public speaking and more.
