A marijuana grow was uncovered inside a Puyallup home Wednesday morning after the house caught fire.

Someone renting the home in the 800 block of 5th Street Southeast called 911 about 8:25 a.m. to report seeing smoke coming from the roof. Fire crews were able to quickly knock down the blaze.

No one was injured. Investigators haven’t determined what started the fire, but it is believed to be accidental, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Randy Stephens said.

Puyallup police are handling the marijuana investigation.

Police Capt. Scott Engle said a number of plants were being grown in one of the bedrooms.

Evidence of the marijuana grow was seized from the house, and a report will be sent to Pierce County prosecutors for consideration of criminal charges, Engle said.
