Popular Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver celebrated retiring after a 14-year career during an event at Lambeau Field with family, friends, a handful of teammates and 1,500 fans who filled the atrium and lined balconies to get a glimpse of him.

“I told myself I wasn’t going to cry today, so I’m going to hold the emotion back as much as possible. I love you all so much,” said Driver, who retired after catching 743 passes for 10,137 yards after making the team as a seventh-round draft pick out of Alcorn State in 1999.

The event was carried live on Wisconsin television stations.

GOLDSON’S FUTURE

San Francisco All-Pro free safety Dashon Goldson said he is determined to avoid another franchise tag and wants the security of a multiyear contract.

Coach Jim Harbaugh called the former University of Washington star “somebody that I think you reward.”

EXTRA POINTS

The Bengals moved former Raiders coach Hue Jackson to running backs coach from assistant defensive backs coach. … The Giants cut leading rusher Ahmad Bradshaw and defensive tackle Chris Canty. … The Raiders will tarp off about 10,000 seats on the third deck on the east side of the Coliseum to reduce capacity to about 53,250 next season. … The Eagles signed defensive end/linebacker Chris McCoy to a three-year contract and released tackle Demetress Bell. McCoy, who was on Seattle’s practice squad in 2010, had five sacks in two seasons in the CFL with Calgary.
