There was not an abundance of sport at the Moose Hall last night. In fact the program was short, but what there was more than paid up for the young gentlemen who got “cold feet” at the last minute and disappointed the audience. Peter Buzukos, the Greek, wrestled rings around Jim Reed, the one-handed grappler, although once Reed secured a crotch hold and came so near flopping the Portland product that there was no fun in it.

Gov. Albert D. Rosellini today disclosed he is looking into a new method for financing such projects as the Naches tunnel. The governor said he is exploring the possibility of expanding the benefit district for the tunnel project from the three counties presently considered – Pierce, King and Yakima – to 11 counties, including all those bordering on Puget Sound. The new benefit district would be permitted to levy up to one cent more in gasoline taxes to pay for the tunnel, and perhaps even a cross-Sound bridge and to make toll free the second Lake Washington Bridge and the Hood Canal Bridge.

The aerial map of the Tacoma Tideflats on John Terpstra’s office wall offers an idea of the complexity of his task. As the Port of Tacoma’s senior director of facilities, Terpstra commands the port teams that must balance competing missions. He must rapidly build new terminals and piers, and he must protect the environment as well as administer cleanup on port-owned lands. Both environmental protection and port development can be accommodated on the industrial Tideflats, but only if they remain in careful balance, said Terpstra. But the balance already may be tipping in favor of environmental protection at the cost of reduced economic development, he says.
