CONNELL -- The Connell City Council decided this week to repair the whistle near the city library that used to sound off at noon each day.
The council unanimously decided to fix the whistle, which was silenced three years ago after wires were accidentally cut during the remodel of the old firehouse.
It should cost about $850 to fix, according to city documents.
The city had welcomed noon using the fire whistle at the city's fire hall on the south end of town, but it was turned off last June when city residents complained about the din.
A few months ago, Connell residents -- pro whistle and con -- began circulating petitions and attending council meetings arguing for and against reinstating the noon signal.
