A trespasser who wandered onto the grounds of Lowell Elementary School forced a brief lockdown of the school Friday morning, before Tacoma police escorted him away.

No one was hurt or threatened. The school resumed normal operations after about 15 minutes.

“It was just unusual,” school spokeswoman Stacy Flores said. “He didn’t follow your standard safety protocols.”

The man wasn’t a parent and had no ties to children at the school. He didn’t come to the front office and identify himself, the usual procedure.

Administrators called police, who suggested locking down the school until officers arrived. That meant locking all exterior and classroom doors, Flores said.

Police arrived, escorted the man off the grounds and warned him he would be arrested if he returned, Flores said.
