PUYALLUP: High school band wins $10,500 in contest

T he Puyallup High School band has won the “School of The Rock — Battle of the Bands” contest sponsored by KJR 95.7 FM and The Rock Wood Fired Pizza restaurant. The honor comes with a $10,500 award. The 60-piece wind ensemble, under the direction of Eric Ryan, performed a recording of “Karn Evil 9” by Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

    HERMISTON -- Hermiston School District's annual musical festival is today.

    The festival begins at 7 p.m. in the Hermiston High School gym, 600 S. First, Hermiston.

    The event will showcase performances from the band and choir groups of the high school and Sandstone and Armand Larive middle schools.
