The Richland School District will be screening students for the Highly Capable Program throughout the month.
The screening is for students in grades 2-5 through the Measures of Academic Progress, or MAP, test.
Students who meet the 95 percentile in math and reading will have the opportunity to apply for the program.

The Sumner School District has announced that kindergarten registration will begin Jan. 7.
PULLMAN — A task force formed by Washington State University President Elson S. Floyd is close to developing a plan to reduce alcohol abuse among students.
Pasco School District is in the process of identifying students who qualify for the Highly Capable Program.
Students are nominated by teachers to participate in the program, which is for high-achieving students in grades 3-5.
Parents are encouraged to contact teachers if they think their student is a good candidate for the program.
The government is expanding its expedited airport security screening program to some international travelers for the first time.
A film about seaports and watersheds will make its Tacoma premiere March 25 as part of a symposium at University of Washington Tacoma. The event will include a reception, screening of the film “Ocean Frontiers: The Dawn of a New Era in Ocean Stewardship” and panel discussion with experts.
