A $500 million school bond measure in Tacoma was winning with nearly 70 percent of the vote in initial returns tonight, while a $279.6 million measure in Puyallup was falling short with 54.5 percent yes.
The auditor’s office reports that Puyallup’s bond proposal has possibly cleared one hurdle: there are likely enough ballots returned to validate the election.

Puyallup achieved greater-than-expected savings as it refinanced portions of three prior bond issues, according to a city news release.
According to unofficial Pierce County Auditor results, the Puyallup School District $279.6 million bond measure failed to meet the 60 percent supermajority of yes votes required to pass.
Members of the Puyallup School Board are strategizing over when -- or if -- they will ask voters one more time this year for approval of a bond measure.
