Women in Agriculture conference at 20 places Feb. 23, including BelleWood Acres

LAUREL - BelleWood Acres near Laurel will be one of 20 sites in the state hosting a Women in Agriculture conference Saturday, Feb. 23.

The conference will feature speakers, practical advice and discussions on how to improve farm management skills in addition to networking with other women "farmtrepreneurs," according to organizers.

The cost is $25, or $35 after Feb. 18. The conference runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration includes a copy of the book "Farmer Jane: Women Changing the Way We Eat" and lunch.

    The league doesn't have a stance on the issue or the candidates.

    LYNDEN - An upcoming agriculture conference will address a variety of topics about food sustainability and farming management.

    The 2013 Northwest Washington Sustainable Agriculture Conference is a daylong event that starts at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Mt. Baker Rotary building, 1751 Front St.

    Several sessions will feature topics relevant to sustainable and organic producers. Topics include plant disease identification and management, cover-cropping strategies, poultry production, and composting.
