With the Donkey Creek Restoration and Transportation Improvement Project to begin in March, city officials will host an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Harbor History Museum, 4121 Harborview Drive.

The event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the project and to ask questions, discuss the phases and have an opportunity to meet the representatives from the city’s contractor, MidMountain Contractors.

The Donkey Creek project will restore Donkey Creek between the Gig Harbor Bay and Donkey Creek Park, provide widened sidewalks and a new pedestrian trail, and improve traffic flow along Harborview Drive, North Harborview Drive and Austin Street.

Funding is provided by a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Grant, a U.S. Housing and Urban Development Neighborhood Initiative Grant and city funds.

During the course of construction, the public can expect significant traffic control and delays, and potential rough road conditions. Pedestrian detours will be in place and may impact walking routes.

“Donkey Creek is going to have a big impact on traffic,” Mayor Chuck Hunter said.

The project website, www.donkeycreekrestoration.com, will have routine updates and notices.
