A vandal caused $2,000 in damage Wednesday by throwing rocks through front windows of The Grand Cinema in Tacoma, police said Thursday.
Annie Wright Schools and The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation are sponsoring a free screening of the new film “Girl Rising” at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The film, about the ability of education to change the world, is directed by Academy Award-nominated journalist Richard E. Robbins and features nine girls from nine developing countries.
It’s curtains for another Tacoma-area movie theater. The Galaxy Narrows Theater will play its last film Thursday night. Theater personnel confirmed Monday the multiplex, eight-screen theater at 2208 Mildred St. W. in University Place will join a handful of chain theaters that have closed their doors in the Tacoma area in the last decade.
Could you watch 12 movies nonstop and stay awake? For most of us, the answer is no. Luckily for those of you who are fans of The Grand Cinema, you won’t have to to participate in the Grand’s first-ever 24-hour Movie Marathon this weekend.
For one night every year, a patch of Tacoma basks in the glow of Hollywood. While the stars are strolling the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Tacoma’s celebrities will walk the red carpet at Theatre on the Square.
