A main Tacoma arterial was blocked late Saturday afternoon as nine units of the Tacoma Fire Department responded to a suspicious garage fire.
The first units responded within minutes of the call, reported in the 1400 block of South 38th Street.
Its a suspicious fire in a vacant house, said Battalion Chief Ray Manglona at the scene.
Witnesses said two gentlemen were leaving suspiciously on 38th Street, looking back, he said. There had been some sort of mild bang.
The fire was contained to a garage attached to a 1,200-square-foot house. Manglona said neighbors had reported that squatters may have been staying on the property.
Tacoma Police were investigating the incident, Manglona said. He described the men seen leaving the area as two brown-skinned, early-20s males, one wearing gray jeans, a black sweater and a black cap with red underneath; and the other heavyset wearing gray shorts and black socks.
A primary and secondary search of the garage and house found no victims. There were no injuries. Authorities continued their investigation into Saturday evening.
