Hikers walking on a Vashon Island beach shortly after noon Monday discovered the body of an elderly woman, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported.
“It looks like she washed ashore,” Sgt. Cindi West said Monday. “Obviously, it’s suspicious anytime someone winds up dead on a beach, but we don’t know how she got there.”
The body was found on Reddings Beach, on the island’s west side and just north of Paradise Cove. While detectives try to determine the woman’s identity, West said the King County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy on Tuesday.
“First we’ll try to figure out who she is,” West said, “then backtrack to figure out how she got there.”
