FFA students to compete Friday at River View

Nine local chapters of Future Farmers of America, or FFA, will compete in the Lower Columbia Basin FFA Jamboree from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at River View High School, 36509 S. Lemon Drive, Finley.

Students from Finley, Columbia, Pasco, Kiona-Benton City, Connell, Kahlotus, New Horizons, Chiawana and Kamiakin high schools will compete in career development events for a chance to go to the state convention.

Events include tractor driving, horse evaluation, food science, public speaking and more.

  • Friends of NRA banquet set for Saturday

    The Mount Rainier Committee of the Friends of NRA will hold its 20th annual banquet and auction fundraiser Saturday. There will be raffles and games throughout the evening, as well as an auction.

  • Richland music students named overall winners in Young Artists Competition

    Two Richland music students were named the overall winners at the recent Young Artists Competition sponsored by the Mid-Columbia Symphony.

    Violinist Diana Wang, a ninth grader at Hanford High, and pianist Justin James Chua, a 10th grader at Richland High, will perform with the symphony at its spring concert in May.

    The competition was held in January at Central United Protestant Church in Richland. This year's candidates performed in flute, piano and strings categories.
