Seats are filling fast for the second Tumwater University, a free program that teaches the public about the history of the city and how local government works.
All but one seat was filled as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to Heidi Cerniwey, spokeswoman for the city.
There were 56 seats available last year and a waiting list of 23 people. Those on last year’s waiting list were given priority for this year’s two-day class.
Cerniwey is expecting another wait list this year.
Classes are from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 25 and March 4 at Tumwater City Hall, 555 Israel Road Southwest.
Everyone who signs up gets a free T-shirt and a diploma at the end of the two-day course.
Some of this year’s topics include the Brewery Neighborhood and Capitol Boulevard Plan, neighborhood traffic control, the history of Tumwater, how to communicate with elected officials and crime prevention.
