Power was knocked out to much of downtown Puyallup on Tuesday after a car wreck, police reported.

A car slammed into a utility pole in the 400 block of Second Avenue Northeast about 1:30 a.m., severing the pole near its base, police said.

The driver suffered only a minor injury, but electricity was knocked out to a large section of the northeast and northwest parts of the city. It took utility crews several hours to restore electricity.

“Original collision was caused by a recklessly driven vehicle that lost control,” the Police Department tweeted.
