The nonprofit Chase Garden is seeking volunteers. The Graham area garden will have a volunteer orientation meeting 9:30-11 a.m., March 2. Volunteer opportunities will be presented; no experience is required. More information and directions can be found at chasegarden.org or at 360-893-6739. The public garden established by Emmott and Ione Chase is the subject of an article in the current issue of “Garden Design” magazine. The garden reopens for the season on April 1. Chase Garden is located at 16015 264th St. E., Orting.

  • VOLUNTEER: People needed to help restore Morse Preserve

    People are needed to join the Morse Force volunteers in continuing the restoration of the Morse Wildlife Preserve. The group and community volunteers will gather Feb. 23 to plant native trees, remove Scotch broom and do other restoration activities that will support the health of the preserve.

  • Kennewick to get community vegetable garden

    Kennewick will have a community-owned vegetable garden this spring, thanks to the city and a handful of expert gardeners.

    The garden is at Jay Perry Park at 1201 S. Newport St., behind Hawaiian Village Apartments off 10th Street. It's in a section of town Kennewick City Councilman Bob Parks described as "a rather blighted area," when he talked about the project at a council meeting earlier this week.

    Washington State University Extension Master Gardeners of Benton and Franklin Counties became involved in the garden project last year after Master Gardener Bill Dixon learned the city planned on building community gardens.
