Whatcom County's lowlands could get strong winds Friday, Feb. 22, as the mountains get piled with snow.
A wind advisory will be in effect for Whatcom County from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, with the possibility of south to southeast winds of 20 to 35 mph and gusts up to 45 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Winds that strong could break branches and cause scattered power outages.
A strong system is expected to bring heavy snow into the mountains as well. Mt. Baker Ski Area could get anywhere from 1 to 2 feet of snow between Friday morning and Saturday morning. Skiers and snowboarders heading up the mountain should prepare for winter driving conditions on Mount Baker Highway.
