The City of Gig Harbor will begin construction Feb. 27 on the largest sewer left station and various manholes. The project, which will be conducted by Rognlin's Inc. of Aberdeen, will last until mid-April.
Lift station 3A is located across Harborview Drive from Austin Estuary Park at 4104 Harborview Drive. The work will include taking the lift station offline and installing a "pump-around" system to bypass the station and transport the incoming sewer effluent to the city's wastewater treatment plant.
In conjunction with the lift station rehabilitation, Rognlin's Inc. also will work to apply a protective lining system to six manholes — five on Soundview Drive and one at the intersection of Wagner Way and Wollochet Drive. The work is required to fix corrosion and degradation issues that commonly occur in sewer systems.
During construction, a traffic revision will be in place on Harborview Drive in the vicinity of the work. It is not expected to cause traffic delays but will require caution as drivers travel through shifted lanes.
The work on the manhole covers will include temporary traffic-control measures, which may include flaggers and minor delays.
