Jedd Gyorko belted a grand slam to highlight a six-run first inning that propelled the San Diego Padres to a 9-3 win over the Seattle Mariners in the Cactus League opener for both teams.

Chris Denorfia finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Padres, with Jeudy Valdez contributing a pinch-hit, two-run double in the ninth inning to the triumph.

Sean O'Sullivan held the Mariners scoreless over the first two innings to register the victory, with Thad Weber and Miles Mikolas also tossing a pair of shutout frames for San Diego.

Casper Wells had a two-run homer to pace Seattle offensively. Mariners starter Hector Noesi struggled mightily, surrendering six runs (four earned) on four hits and walking four batters while recording just two outs.
