A Steilacoom woman pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of first-degree animal cruelty charges for allegedly neglecting one of her dogs so badly every bone on his body protruded.
A bench warrant was issued for Kim Olander, 35, earlier this week. She was booked into the Pierce County Jail on Thursday.
Animal control officers were called to Olander’s home Jan. 8 after receiving a complaint. They found two 7-year-old dogs, Angel and Dinks, locked in a bathroom soaked with urine.
Dinks was emaciated, weighed 39 pounds and was suffering from a sunken face, anemia and liver issues, charging papers state. Prosecutors said the dog gained 11 pounds in six days after receiving proper nutrition.
Angel appeared thin but had no major health issues. Three other healthy dogs were found in the home.
Olander told the animal control officer Dinks and Angel had been sick for about two months but she hadn’t taken them to a veterinarian.
