Riding a fast start, the top-ranked Cascade Christian girls are returning to the Class 1A state basketball tournament in Yakima.
Scoring 23 points in the opening quarter, the Cougars cruised to a 57-40 victory over fifth-ranked Woodland in the regional tournament at Mount Vernon High School on Friday night.
Olivia Tuttle led the scoring barrage by sinking three 3-pointers in the first quarter. Kaycee Creech, the Nisqually 1A player of the year, added seven points.
“It really gave us a lot of confidence,” Cascade Christian coach Bryan Peterson said.
The Cougars racked up seven 3-pointers in the first half, building as large as an 18-point lead.
Creech ended up leading Cascade Christian with 17 points. Katie Rozumny added 14, and Tuttle finished with 11.
CLASS 4A
Mead 67, Puyallup 41: The No. 1 Panthers jumped out to a big lead in Wenatchee, getting 23 points from Ashlyn Lewey in their regional victory over the Vikings.
CLASS 3A
Kamiakin 57, Lakes 33: A pair of sophomores are the reason the Braves are moving on – and the Lancers are coming home after a season-ending loss.
Holly Ellison scored a career-high 17 points, and Lindsey Schauble pulled down 20 rebounds in Kamiakin’s regional victory at University High School in Spokane.
Lakes keyed on Kamiakin leading-scorer Courtney Nelson, holding her without a field goal in the first half.
Glacier Peak 47, Enumclaw 40: Julia Myers tallied 19 points in a losing effort for the Hornets, who were eliminated from the postseason by the seventh-ranked Grizzlies, who were playing the regional game on their home court.
