'Argo' wins best picture on scattered Oscar night

Just as Oscar host Seth MacFarlane set his sights on a variety of targets with a mixture of hits and misses, the motion picture academy spread the gold around to a varied slate of films. "Argo" won best picture as expected, along with two other prizes. But "Life of Pi" won the most awards with four, including a surprise win for director Ang Lee.

Just as Oscar host Seth MacFarlane set his sights on a variety of targets with a mixture of hits and misses, the motion picture academy spread the gold around to a varied slate of films. "Argo" won best picture as expected, along with two other prizes. But "Life of Pi" won the most awards with four, including a surprise win for director Ang Lee.

"Les Miserables" also won three Academy Awards, while "Django Unchained" and "Skyfall" each took two.

    Darby, who is one of the show directors for the Academy of Children's Theatre, will be a contestant on the Millionaire's Countdown To The Oscars show, which airs Tuesday through Wednesday on ABC.

    According to Trisha Miller, a publicist for the show, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences conducted a sweepstakes on its Facebook page last fall and selected Darby as the winner.

    Josh Darby of Richland is a movie savant. It earned him a spot on tonight's Who Wants to be a Millionaire show.

    It all started last year while surfing Facebook.

    "It's kind of a crazy fun story how I got on the show," said Darby, an educational coordinator at the Academy of Children's Theatre in Richland. "Being a fan of the Oscars (and movies), I noticed they were holding a contest and the winner would get a chance to appear on Millionaire."
