Crepes, pho and frozen yogurt on the way to downtown Tacoma

In my inbox from the University of Washington Tacoma this morning is an announcement downtown eaters will love to read - three new restaurants are coming to the campus. I've already reported on one - Savor Creperie, which has delayed its opening from January to March. Here's even better news than a much needed creperie in that neighborhood - downtown diners will be getting another pho restaurant - and it's a local restaurant chain diners will recognize.

  • Opening delay: Savor Creperie plans April debut in downtown Tacoma

    Construction delays have moved the opening of Savor Creperie forward an additional month. The creperie will operate in the University of Washington Tacoma neighborhood. Owner Tom Vigue said he’s expecting to be serving crepes by early April. Vigue said last fall he planned to open by January, but turning the former bookstore into a restaurant space has taken longer than previously expected. Vigue, a newcomer to Tacoma, described his menu as something like what one would find in the many walk-in creperies that pepper Vancouver B.C.

Consider pho the gateway dish to Vietnamese cuisine, now part of everyday culinary vernacular in South Sound.

It seemed as if the closures would drastically reduce our access to gyros, souvlaki and falafal (the horror!). Lucky for diners, when one gyros door closes here, another seems to open.
