Downed power poles and lines closed a portion of Chuckanut Drive for more than two hours south of the Whatcom County line Monday, Feb. 25, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Chuckanut Drive was closed between Bow Hill Road and Legg Road as high winds hit the region, and a detour was set up to reroute traffic around the closure.

The closure began shortly before 11 a.m. Puget Sound Energy crews were sent to repair the lines. All lanes reopened at about 1:45 p.m. near Bow Hill Road.

  • Bellingham will flush water mains beginning April 15

BELLINGHAM - Public Works Department crews will begin annual flushing of the city's water mains on Monday, April 15.

Flushing removes mineral deposits that naturally build up on the inside walls of the pipes. Water used in the flushing is dechlorinated before being discharged into storm drains.

Flushing often temporarily discolors the water. The discolored water is not harmful to people's health or to many household uses. If you notice discolored water from your tap, run cold water in your bathtub for a few minutes to clear the lines.
