Kennewick oncologist Dr. Sheila Rege rated among best in U.S.

The Consumers' Research Council of America has rated Dr. Sheila Rege of Northwest Cancer Clinic in Kennewick one of the nation's top oncologists in 2012.

The council is based in Washington, D.C., and provides consumer information guides for professional services.

Rege is board certified in radiation oncology and is chair of the Cancer Program at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland as well as working with Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco and Kennewick General Hospital.

She helped start Northwest Cancer Clinic in April 2012.

    Cancer doesn't take a holiday, so neither did two groups of people who help cancer patients fight their battles.

    Within the past few days, donations benefiting cancer patients were made by Northwest Cancer Clinic in Kennewick, and by a group of women who raise money for cancer programs at a theme party each year.

    Staff at Northwest Cancer Clinic asked co-workers to pitch in to provide a holiday gift to a patient with cancer who has children.

  • Tri-Cities Cancer Center director retiring

    Tri-Cities Cancer Center's executive director Thomas Cothran announced his retirement Wednesday after serving 7 1/2 years.

    "Tom grew services offered to cancer patients and the community in a way that will positively affect the health care of our region for years to come," Jeff Petersen, the cancer center board's chairman, said in a news release.

    During that time, the cancer center campus grew with the addition of the HAPO Medical Oncology wing, which houses Columbia Basin Hematology and Oncology. The center's library, the Ralph R. Peterson Cancer Resource Library, and its resource center also expanded.

  • Specialist to join cancer center staff

    Dr. Juno Choe, a board-certified radiation oncologist, will join the Tri-Cities Cancer Center in late May.

    Choe formerly was with Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital and its cancer center, North Star Lodge, according to a press release from the Tri-Cities Cancer Center.

    Prior to that he was the director of radiation oncology for Capital Oncology in Auburn.

  • Free lymphedema class today at cancer center

    The Tri-Cities Cancer Center is offering a free lymphedema prevention class.

    The class will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. today at the center, 7350 W. Deschutes Ave., Kennewick.

    Lymphedema is a swelling that occurs in the arms or legs because of problems in the lymph system.
