Village Books is celebrating Read Across America Day with a special Dr. Seuss-themed reading and craft activity for children.

Claire McElroy-Chesson will read several Dr. Seuss books and then lead a craft session from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at the bookstore, 1200 11th St.

"They're going to be making little 'Cat in the Hat' hats," McElroy-Chesson said.

The event replaces the store's regular preschool story time.

Read Across America is a nationwide event sponsored by the National Education Association. Many local schools will hold their own events Friday, March 1, to celebrate. Details: 360-671-2626 or villageboooks.com.
