The Gig Harbor Family YMCA will soon officially be known as the Tom Taylor Family YMCA. Pierce-Kitsap YMCA President and CEO Bob Ecklund made the announcement Thursday morning at the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce-sponsored public affairs forum.
Taylor, the immediate past chair and board member at the Pierce-Kitsap YMCA and a volunteer for more than 40 years, made a donation of $500,000, bringing his total donation to $1 million, allowing the facility to be renamed in his honor.
Ecklund told the Cottesmore of Life Care audience he hopes the Taylor gift "primes the pump to raise another $2.5 million" that would go toward expansion plans that are already under way for the Gig Harbor facility.
According to the Pierce-Kitsap YMCA, tentative plans call for a public announcement and unveiling of new signage at 8:15 a.m., on Wednesday March 6, at the Gig Harbor's YMCA location at 10550 Harbor Hill Drive.
Check out next week's Gateway for more details on expansion plans and the renaming of the facility.
