Cave art reimagined part of Bellingham art walk

BELLINGHAM - Among the artists featured at this month's Downtown Art Walk is a Bellingham artist who does his own interpretations of Lascaux cave art.

Tom Ensign, who uses a process of digital imagery and painting, will have his art on display at Oasis Physical Therapy & Pilates, 301 W. Holly St., one of dozens of galleries and businesses that will be open for the walk from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, March 1.

    The Bellingham Herald is collecting information from Whatcom County businesses and organizations serving children 12 and younger for several lists for the back-to-school issue of Bellingham Families magazine and BellinghamFamilies.com.

    We're looking for arts and science enrichment programs, youth sports, private schools, preschools and day-care facilities.

    Entries will be accepted until May 17.

  • MS benefit walk is in Bellingham Saturday, April 13

    BELLINGHAM - Walk MS, an annual fundraiser to support the fight against multiple sclerosis, is Saturday, April 13.

    Day-of registration begins 9 a.m. at the Meridian Haggen, 2814 Meridian St. A ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 10.

    The 1.75-mile walk, organized by the Greater Northwest chapter of the National MS Society, is part of a national effort to raise money for MS treatment and research. The Bellingham event, sponsored by Haggen, has a goal to raise $76,000.

  • Ski to Sea Book Sale starts May 22

    BELLINGHAM - Book lovers and bargain hunters will be out in force Wednesday, May 22, for the opening day of the annual Ski to Sea Book Sale.

    More than 10,000 books will fill the downstairs lecture room of the Bellingham Public Library, 210 Central Ave. Children's books will be in the lower hallway near the elevators.

    Some books come from the library's shelves and many are donations from Village Books, but the majority are from the area's avid reading community, said Doraine Jensen, a member of Friends of the Bellingham Public Library that puts on the sale each year.
