Five men and a teenage boy were arrested early Thursday after breaking into a Lakewood elementary school, police said.

An alarm summoned officers about 3:15 a.m. to Oakwood Elementary School, 3230 S. 85th St., and they saw three people running away and took them into custody. The three had dropped stolen laptops, cell phones and a video camera while fleeing, police said.

A police dog was called to track the thieves and three people eventually were arrested.

Ages of the suspects range from 16 to 25, police Lt. Chris Lawler said.

One of the suspects told police the group had been drinking on the basketball court when they decided to crawl through one of the school’s windows and steal items.
