SALT WATER
South Sound: Zittel’s Johnson Point Marina reports there haven’t been enough anglers heading out to get an idea for how good the fishing might be in the area.
Tacoma: The staff at the Point Defiance Boathouse Marina reports fishing in the area is finally picking up after a slow February. Anglers are heading to Dalco and the waters in front of the boathouse to catch blackmouth. Fish are biting at 140-150 feet for those trolling with flasher and spoon.
North Sound: Mike Chamberlain of Ted’s Sports Center in Lynnwood said fishing has been slow, but some anglers are having luck around the San Juan Islands.
Razor clams: The WDFW has tentatively scheduled the next coastal razor clam dig for March 7-11 at Twin Harbors and March 9-10 at Long Beach, Copalis and Mocrocks.
LAKES
American: Mike Barr of Bill’s Boathouse said the action is good even if it’s not quite as hot as three weeks ago. He has caught several trout, mostly in the 13-to-17-inch range but has yet to see perch or rock bass. He recommends using PowerBait with a 6-foot leader. “The weather’s not great,” he said, “but there are still fish being caught.”
Spanaway: Bud Herlitzka of the Spanaway Park Boat House said “if you’re going to come out be patient.” The fish are fairly deep. Anglers are catching fish while trolling and still-fishing, but the action is slow on the dock. Herlitzka recommends using PowerBait with a 2-foot leader for still-fishing.
Offut: PowerBait and worms have worked for some anglers.
Saint Clair: Rainbow trout are biting here.
Green: Fishing for browns has been quite good this week, Chamberlain said.
Washington: Cutthroat fishing has been good here, but not many anglers are trying, Chamberlain said.
Eastern Washington: Anton Jones at Darrell and Dad’s Family Guide Service said fishing is hot for those trolling for trout below Wapato Point on Lake Chelan. At Rufus Woods Lake, fishing is has been tough but some are catching fish, Jones said. The ice isn’t good on Roses Lake, and Jones said he wouldn’t recommend fishing there. Seep Lakes opened Friday, and Chamberlain said customers in his shop are heading east in anticipation of good fishing in the lakes around George and Quincy. Trout fishing has been good on Lake Roosevelt. Bank anglers using PowerBait, eggs or night crawlers with marshmallows are doing well
RIVERS
Columbia: Catches are “few and far between,” Chamberlain said.
Olympic Coast: The Hoh, Calawah and Sol Duc were a good place to try for steelhead earlier this week, but rivers might be out of shape now thanks to heavy rain on Thursday.
Skookumchuck: Some anglers are landing steelhead with eggs and shrimp-tipped jigs under a float.
Washougal: Some anglers are catching steelhead here, but action seems slow according to a recent WDFW sample.
