The Knights, who got 24 points from Will Ferris, held off the Cougars’ late charge.

Newport led after three quarters, 53-44, but Bothell cut it to 59-56 with three minutes left. The Cougars couldn’t get any closer, missing three 3-point attempts — two by leading scorer Zach LaVine — in the final 90 seconds. LaVine finished with 27 points, but missed all 10 of his 3-point attempts. The Cougars were 1-for-15 on 3-pointers.

Ferris made five 3-pointers for the Knights, and Miles Fowler added 12 points, including a fadeaway baseline jumper with 36 seconds left to secure the victory.

Bothell forward Josh Martin, who finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds, had a powerful dunk midway through the second quarter that jarred the basket, causing a short delay.
