Gig Harbor High School senior Shane O'Connor is taking aim — literally — at raising funds for the Foss Waterway Seaport Museum.
As part of his senior project, O'Connor organized a trap shoot at the Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club to benefit the Tacoma museum. It's also a way to honor his father, a longtime tugboat captain who unexpectedly passed away in December.
The fundraising event took place late Saturday morning and into the afternoon, and featured approximately 40 shooters — including many family and friends — using a shotgun to shoot at clay pigeon targets.
"For me, it's more just the kind of mental aspect to it," O'Connor, who has worked at the sportsman's club for more than a year, said of the sport. "You've got to really focus on it...and the fun of it."
