Kennewick police plan annual citizen academy

KENNEWICK -- The Kennewick Police Department will hold its annual Citizen's Police Academy starting March 26.

The class meets from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays for five weeks. Participants learn about patrol procedures, criminal investigations, crime prevention, gangs, police dogs and the department's volunteer program.

    A driver reportedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol backed into a Kennewick police car just before 4 p.m. Thursday, police said.

    Kennewick police told the Herald an officer had pulled the car over when the driver accidentally backed into the police car near Rainier Street and Seventh Avenue in Kennewick.

  • Child tests positive for meth in Kennewick

    A 20-month-old child brought to the emergency room at Kennewick General Hospital tested positive for meth Monday, according to Kennewick police.

    Christopher D. Jackson, 21, the child's uncle, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and endangerment of a child with illegal drugs, according to Kennewick police. He also had two felony warrants for his arrest.

    The child's grandmother has custody of the child, but left the child with Jackson, her son, at his home. Jackson called his mother to tell her the child appeared to be sick, and she took the child to the hospital, according to the police report.

  • Man accused of attempted rape in view of Kennewick police station

    A transient has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape after an officer at the nearby Kennewick Police Headquarters saw him accost a Kennewick city employee, according to police reports.

    The woman had parked her car on the east side of Kennewick City Hall at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday and was walking across the parking lot when she was confronted by Brandon Hankle, 30, according to police reports.

    He allegedly told her he planned to have sex with her there, according to police reports.
